Hyderabad, August 28: AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has questioned the Haj 2027 tender process, alleging irregularities in the selection of a service provider. The Centre has rejected the allegations and defended the process.
Singh raised the issue in a post on X on Thursday. He questioned the selection of Ithraa Al Khair for the Comprehensive Service Package for Haj 2027.

He alleged that the company had received the contract previously. He also claimed that its selection could increase the financial burden on Haj pilgrims.
Journalist and columnist Saiyed Zegham Murtaza raised similar concerns. He claimed that Mashareq Al Mutamayizah had emerged as the L1 bidder under the Quality and Cost Based Selection process.
Murtaza said Mashareq Al Mutamayizah quoted SAR 8,717.01 per pilgrim. He claimed Ithraa Al Khair quoted SAR 9,777 per pilgrim.

He estimated that the difference could create an additional burden of over Rs 300 crore. His calculation was based on around 1.22 lakh Indian Haj pilgrims.
Centre defends Haj 2027 tender process
The Ministry of Minority Affairs responded to the allegations on Friday. It said the Haj 2027 tender followed a prescribed and structured procurement process.
The ministry said eligible bids underwent scrutiny and evaluation by designated authorities and committees. It added that officials assessed the bids according to the tender conditions.
According to the ministry, the selection followed the approved evaluation methodology. It said extraneous considerations did not influence the decision.
The ministry also said officials considered quality, capacity and operational preparedness. Financial factors relevant to providing services were also examined.
The ministry said the process remained subject to the prescribed approval and procurement framework. It added that safeguards were in place to protect the interests of Indian pilgrims.
The Ministry has taken note of reports/allegations questioning the selection of the Service Provider Company (SPC) for Haj-2027.

The ministry rejected allegations of wrongdoing and said it remained committed to transparency and accountability. However, its statement did not name any company or address the specific bidding claims.
Singh later said the clarification failed to answer his questions. He questioned the alleged repeated selection of the same company and the reported difference in quoted rates.
Murtaza also sought answers on the selection process. He questioned why Ithraa Al Khair received the contract despite his claim about the L1 bidder.

He further called for scrutiny of the tender process and an investigation into the allegations.
