Advocates Association Urges Fair Representation for Muslims in Telangana
Hyderabad, December 27 (Maxim News): A group called the All India Advocates Welfare Association recently spoke up about a problem in Telangana. They say that for a long time, not enough Muslim lawyers have been given important positions in the legal system.
This group wants the government to change this and make sure Muslim lawyers get a fair chance.
The group convenor Advocate Mirza Nisar Ahmed Baig, while addressing a media meet here on Wednesday, pointed out that even though Muslims make up 15% of the country’s population, in Telangana, it’s around 13%. But for the past 67 years, talented Muslim lawyers have not been chosen for top legal roles, like Advocate General or Public Prosecutor. Instead, other lawyers were picked for these positions, and not many of them were Muslims.
This worries the legal community because they think everyone should have a fair shot at these important jobs. The group reminded the CM Revanth Reddy government that they were elected partly because they promised to help Muslims and other minority communities. Not keeping this promise could make people lose trust in the government.
The group wants the government to do things differently. In the past, two Additional Advocate Generals were usually picked, but the recent government didn’t follow this practice. The group wants the government to appoint two Additional Advocate Generals, and one of them should be a Muslim lawyer.
They also noticed that a lawyer from the majority community got a top job even though there are experienced Muslim lawyers around. The group worries that similar jobs, like Advocate General and Public Prosecutor, might also go to people from the majority community. They think this isn’t fair and that the government should make sure Muslim lawyers get these opportunities.
The group thinks it’s important for the government to act quickly to fix this problem. They want the legal system to be fair and include people from different religious backgrounds. They believe that by doing this, the government can build trust in how the legal system works. The group hopes that by speaking up, they can guide the government to make positive changes for Muslim lawyers in Telangana and all over India.
The press conference is a big step forward for the lawyers’ group. It is putting pressure on the government to make the justice system fairer for everyone. Advocate Nisar Ahmed, has reminded CM Revanth Reddy that this step will be the first in 67 years in Telugu States. On a question he said that they have tried to reach out to CM Revanth, but in vain.
