Hyderabad, Sept 25 (Maxim News): The country’s highest court has given a stern warning to ‘Akarsh’ politics in Telangana politics. The jump that jumps the walls of parties in a chaotic manner has shocked the Jilanis. The High Court has upheld the verdict on the disqualification of Danam in the party defection case. With this, the trap is being set for eight other MLAs who jumped the car.
Political analysts believe that the Supreme Court’s verdict is not limited to one Danam, but will also have an impact on the cases of the remaining MLAs who joined the Congress. The verdict in the case of former Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender will be a key turning point in the case of MLAs who won as MLAs on BRS tickets and took steps towards the Congress.
The Khairatabad Assembly seat became vacant after the Supreme Court upheld the High Court verdict that declared Danam Nagender, who contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on behalf of the Congress, as ineligible to be a member of the Telangana Assembly with effect from April 23, 2024. The High Court has declared his seat vacant and sent orders to the Assembly Secretary, Speaker and Election Commission. Now, the Supreme Court has also clarified that there is no reason to interfere with the High Court verdict, further clarifying the Danam case.
The same test for eight people
In the wake of the donation case, all eyes are now on the cases of the remaining defected MLAs. The Speaker’s decision has already been issued in the case of disqualification petitions filed against Kadiyam Srihari, Tellam Venkat Rao, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Kale Yadaiah, Sanjay Kumar, Prakash Goud, Arikepudi Gandhi, and Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy. The Speaker dismissed many of the petitions on the grounds that the evidence was insufficient. When the BRS leaders approached the High Court on these decisions, the High Court issued notices to several MLAs and the Speaker. The court especially asked for the submission of records and counter affidavits in the cases of seven MLAs. That is, the real fight has now reached the courtrooms from the Speaker’s chambers.
The Speaker’s lawyer revealed in the Supreme Court that the investigations against ten MLAs facing allegations of defection will be completed by March 2026 and disqualification will not apply to all of them. However, the High Court has given a ‘clean chit’ in the donation case. The court considered the fact that he contested the Lok Sabha elections as a Congress candidate while he was a BRS MLA as a key factor. The High Court’s own disqualification, reviewing the Speaker’s decision, has brought a new legal development to this matter. This has now become a test for the remaining cases.
Are there by-elections in all eight seats?
With the disqualification of Danam Nagender, a by-election for the Khairatabad assembly constituency has become inevitable. However, some political pundits are of the opinion that it would be premature to say that by-elections are inevitable for the remaining eight candidates. They say that their cases are being heard separately and the final outcome will depend on the respective judicial decisions. If the Speaker’s decisions in the remaining cases also do not stand up to court review, then successive by-elections in Telangana will become inevitable. If elections are held in several assembly seats simultaneously, they are likely to become a platform for public judgment on defections rather than just local elections.
Although the Congress government is not in danger numerically in the assembly, it seems certain to suffer a serious setback politically and morally. Political analysts say that this development will not only provide a huge relief to the opposition BRS party, but will also instill new enthusiasm in the cadre. Analysts believe that these shackles imposed by the court on the arrogance of the ruling party, which thought that it could easily integrate defectors, and the greed of the ‘gopis’, who thought that they could protect their positions, will take the political direction of Telangana to new shores.
