AIMIM and BJP want to win Hyderabad for selfish reasons, not for the people: Sameer

Hyderabad, April 28: Hyderabad DCC President and Congress candidate from Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency Mohammed Waliullah Sameer has accused both the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of seeking to win the upcoming election for selfish reasons, ignoring the people’s needs.

While addressing the media after a door-to-door campaign in Doodh Bowli and surrounding areas on Sunday, Sameer Waliullah expressed shock at hearing residents complain that no leaders from either MIM or BJP had approached them to listen to their grievances or offer solutions. He pointed out that the Hyderabad constituency is represented by one MP, seven MLAs, and 43 corporators from MIM and BJP, yet none of them has made an effort to understand the needs of the people in this part of Telangana.

Hyderabad is home to major tourist attractions such as Charminar, Mecca Masjid, Salarjung Museum, Chowmahalla Palace, and Qutb Shahi Tombs. Despite this, the inefficiency and lack of vision from MIM and BJP leaders have prevented this area from generating jobs or business opportunities related to tourism,” Sameer said. He also criticized the poor development and infrastructure in historic markets like Laad Bazaar and Pathergatti in the Old City, attributing this to the lack of visionary leadership. He mentioned that the previous BRS Government had promised to develop Hyderabad’s Old City to resemble Istanbul in Turkey, but the promise remained unfulfilled due to a lack of sincerity and the communal politics of both MIM and BJP.

Sameer pointed out that MIM first won an election in Hyderabad’s Old City in 1962 and entered the Assembly in 1969, later winning the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat in 1984. Since then, they have discouraged any discourse about developing Hyderabad. Similarly, BJP emerged as MIM’s arch-rival, and both parties have kept voters engaged in Hindu-Muslim rhetoric since 1984. Hyderabad is one of the few regions in India where major parties do not present manifestos or agendas to the voters, preferring to rely on fear-based appeals. He emphasized that MIM’s President, Asaduddin Owaisi, seeks votes solely by suggesting that if he loses, BJP will win, while BJP, in turn, wants Owaisi to lose. Neither party has presented any plans for the people or outlined their proposed policies if elected.

Waliullah Sameer pledged to change this trend, stating that he has been studying the issues facing the people of Hyderabad since 2018 and has prepared a draft with various solutions. Some of his suggestions have been included in the Congress manifesto for the Assembly elections, such as strengthening the Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority and SETWIN. The Congress Government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has already laid the foundation for the Metro Rail Project in the Old City and initiated the Musi Riverfront Project, with other developmental works in the pipeline. Sameer assured that if Congress wins the Hyderabad seat, the entire area will witness significant development. Regarding his campaign, Sameer mentioned his focus on meeting as many people as possible through door-to-door outreach. He said he is also conducting public meetings in all seven Assembly constituencies in Hyderabad and plans bike rallies to increase visibility and engagement. (Maxim News)
