AIMPLB to Challenge Waqf Bill in Court, Calls It ‘Black Law’

The bill is set to be discussed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. If passed, it will then go to the Rajya Sabha for approval.

At a press conference, AIMPLB member Ad Adeeb criticized the bill, saying it is an attempt to take away Muslim community properties.

“They think they can just take our land. Can we accept this? No! This fight is not over,” Adeeb said.

He stressed that this is just the beginning of their protest against the bill. He also pointed out that during discussions in the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), the bill was opposed.

“Don’t think we have lost. This is a fight to protect the country because this law goes against India’s values,” he added.

AIMPLB spokesperson Mohammad Ali Mohsin also voiced strong opposition, saying:

“We are fighting to save the country. This law must be stopped.”

He hinted at large-scale protests, comparing it to the farmers’ agitation.

“We will organize protests across the country, just like the farmers did. If needed, we will block roads and take peaceful steps to oppose this bill,” Mohsin warned.

Why Is the Bill Controversial?

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill aims to change the 1995 law that governs Waqf properties in India. The government says the amendments will help manage these properties better.

The bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in August last year and later reviewed by a Joint Parliamentary Committee, which submitted its report in February.

Key Changes in the Bill That Are Being Opposed:

  • Non-Muslim members will be included in the Central Waqf Council and state Waqf boards.
  • Any government land identified as Waqf property will no longer be considered Waqf, and the district collector will decide its ownership.

Opposition parties, including the Congress, have criticized the bill, saying the government rushed it without listening to their suggestions.

As the debate continues, AIMPLB has vowed to fight the bill legally and through public protests until it is withdrawn. (Maxim News)
