Hyderabad: Air Marshal Rahul Bhasin took charge as Commandant of the Air Force Academy (AFA), Dundigal, on March 11. He assumed the position from Air Marshal Praveen Keshav Vohra, marking a new leadership transition at the premier training institution of the Indian Air Force.
Air Marshal Rahul Bhasin was commissioned into the Fighter Stream of the Indian Air Force in June 1990. Since then, he has served in several key operational and staff roles. Meanwhile, he built a strong professional record through years of experience in command and training responsibilities within the force.
He is an alumnus of several prestigious institutions. These include the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, the College of Defence Management in Secunderabad, and the Royal College of Defence Studies in London. Therefore, his training reflects both national and international military education exposure.
Air Marshal Rahul Bhasin also brings extensive flying experience to the role. He has logged over 3,500 hours of flying on various fighter aircraft. In addition, he is a Qualified Flying Instructor. He also holds qualifications as an Instrument Rating Instructor and Examiner. These roles highlight his strong background in aviation training and operational leadership.
During his career, he has held many important appointments. He served as Commanding Officer of a front-line Fighter Squadron. Later, he worked as Chief Operations Officer and Air Officer Commanding of a Fighter Airbase. Meanwhile, he also served on the Operations Staff at Command and Air Headquarters.
Air Marshal Rahul Bhasin also handled strategic responsibilities in senior positions. Notably, he served as Assistant Chief of Air Staff Operations (Space). This role involved oversight of operational planning and coordination related to space operations within the force.
Before taking over as Commandant of the Air Force Academy Dundigal, he served as Director General (Weapon Systems). Therefore, his appointment brings significant operational and administrative experience to the academy’s leadership.
The Air Force Academy at Dundigal plays a key role in training officers for the Indian Air Force. With the new appointment, Air Marshal Rahul Bhasin now leads the institution responsible for shaping future air force officers.
