The move follows Parliament’s approval of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Amendment Bill 2026.

Officials said the new law grants full legal status to Amaravati as the state capital. Moreover, the decision takes retrospective effect from June 2, 2024.

This marks the first time in India that Parliament has passed a law formally fixing the capital of a state. As a result, the earlier three capital proposal now stands closed.

The newly issued map identifies Amaravati as the administrative capital and reflects the latest territorial changes in the state.

New Andhra Pradesh Map Shows 28 Districts

The official map also includes district reorganisation across Andhra Pradesh. The government has newly created Markapuram and Polavaram districts.

With these additions, the total number of districts in Andhra Pradesh has risen to 28. Authorities also confirmed that the boundaries of all districts have been officially updated.
