Azharuddin MLC Plan B | Hyderabad, April 23 (Maxim News): The Congress leadership is weighing a Plan B to retain Telangana Minister Mohammad Azharuddin in the Cabinet if his MLC nomination remains pending beyond April 30. Political sources said the party may ask Azharuddin to resign briefly and then reinduct him as minister next month.
The move has gained urgency as suspense continues over the Governor’s decision on pending nominations under the Governor quota.
Under constitutional rules, a minister who is not a member of the legislature must secure entry into either House within six months. Therefore, Azharuddin must become an MLC before the month-end deadline to continue without interruption.
If the nomination does not come through in time, Congress leaders are considering immediate alternative steps.
Azharuddin | Congress Keeps Plan B Ready
Sources said the proposed strategy includes taking Azharuddin’s resignation at the end of April and swearing him in again as minister during the first week of May.
That option would allow him another six months to become a legislator. Meanwhile, the party expects the pending nomination issue to be resolved during that period.
The Telangana Cabinet had earlier recommended the names of Mohammad Azharuddin and Professor Kodandaram for nomination to the Legislative Council under the Governor quota.
However, the file has remained pending for months due to legal disputes linked to nominated MLC appointments.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy recently met the Governor and reportedly requested early approval of both names.
Governor Decision Still Awaited
Political circles are now watching whether the Governor clears both nominations, approves only one name, or keeps the file pending.
Complaints were also reportedly submitted against Azharuddin’s nomination over earlier allegations linked to the Hyderabad Cricket Association. Because of that, the final outcome remains uncertain.
The issue is likely to come up during the state Cabinet meeting. Leaders may discuss both the pending file and the backup plan.
For now, Congress appears determined to retain Azharuddin in the Cabinet, with Plan B ready if the nomination delay continues.
