Amer Ali Khan Welcomes Supreme Court’s Interim Relief
Hyderabad, April 17: Congress MLC Amer Ali Khan has hailed the Supreme Court’s interim orders on the Waqf Amendment Act as a major moral and legal victory for the community, saying that the judiciary has stood up to protect the religious and constitutional rights of Muslims.
Reacting to Thursday’s hearing, Amer Ali Khan said, “We are happy that the confidence we had in the judiciary has prevailed. The Supreme Court’s interim orders have effectively stayed the inclusion of non-Muslims in Waqf institutions and barred any tampering with the status of Waqf properties. This stay has protected thousands of mosques across the country.”
Amer Ali Khan, who filed a petition independently alongside Tamil Nadu-based party Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), said that he had taken up this legal challenge not for publicity or political gain, but purely out of a sense of duty. “We have raised awareness across the community without seeking any limelight. This was not a political fight, but a constitutional one.”
Describing the emotional public response, he said a special ‘dua’ was organised in Hyderabad by the Imam of the Royal Mosque to pray for the protection of Waqf. “Everyone was in tears. It was a moment of deep collective prayer and perhaps those prayers were heard. The stay order from the court is a reflection of that collective faith.”
He further said that the judiciary had once again acted as a check on undemocratic governance. “Whenever any autocratic government tries to impose laws that violate the spirit of the Constitution, it is the judiciary that intervenes to restore balance. That is what we are witnessing today.”
While the Supreme Court has directed that only five petitions will be treated as lead cases in the next phase of hearings, Amer Ali Khan said he would continue to remain fully engaged in the legal fight. “It is yet to be decided which five petitions will be selected, but the spirit of the matter has been upheld. We are hopeful that in the next hearing on May 5, the Supreme Court will go further and strike down the unconstitutional provisions of the Waqf Amendment Act.”
He reiterated that the law, as it stands amended, poses a direct threat to the sanctity of Waqf institutions and is an assault on religious autonomy. “This legal battle is far from over. But today, the judiciary has given us strength and renewed our belief in constitutional justice,” he said.
Amer Ali Khan affirmed that he will continue the fight, both in court and in public discourse, to ensure that the historical and religious integrity of Waqf properties is preserved. (Maxim News)
