Amit Shah To Reinforce India’s Disaster Management Framework Today
Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Vijayawada Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday, to reinforce India’s disaster management framework where he will interact with senior officials of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Shah will be the Chief Guest at the 20th Foundation Day celebrations of the NDRF.
What will Unfold
Amit Shah will inaugurate and lay the foundation for projects worth over Rs 200 crore, aimed at enhancing India’s disaster management infrastructure. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has transitioned towards a “zero-casualty” approach to disaster management. It focuses on minimizing loss of life during disasters and emphasizes proactive measures to achieve the goal of zero casualties.
Shah will inaugurate several critical centers that contribute to India’s disaster risk reduction system. These include the Southern Campus of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), the campus of the 10th Battalion of the NDRF, and the premises of the Regional Response Centre (RRC) in Supaul, housing the 9th Battalion.
In line with Prime Minister Modi’s “Vision@2047,” these centers are integral to the country’s disaster resilience strategy. They focus on human resource development, capacity building, and enhancing the nation’s ability to respond to and manage disasters. The Southern Campus of NIDM, which has been partially operational since May 2023, has already organized over 44 training programs, equipping more than 2,130 stakeholders with vital disaster management skills.
Launch of Integrated Shooting Range for Police Training
In addition to the disaster management initiatives, Home Minister Amit Shah will also launch the ‘Integrated Indoor Shooting Range’ at the National Police Academy (NPA) in Hyderabad. This state-of-the-art facility will be 50 meters long, with 10 lanes allowing 10 individuals to practice firing simultaneously. The range will be fully automated, operational in all weather conditions, and constructed with advanced technology to meet international standards.
The shooting range, being built for Rs 27 crore, will provide a modern and effective training environment for IPS probationary officers. This facility will play a crucial role in enhancing the firing skills of police officers, ensuring that they are better prepared for challenging law enforcement situations.
Impact of the NDRF’s 10th Battalion
The NDRF’s 10th Battalion has set a high standard for disaster management, participating in over 800 missions since its formation. The battalion has saved more than 15,000 lives and evacuated over 100,000 citizens to safety. Its dedication and professionalism in disaster response have earned it recognition as a model for the entire NDRF. The success of the 10th Battalion exemplifies the effectiveness of India’s disaster management system and its ability to respond to crises with efficiency and compassion.
