The disqualification petition filed against Jagtial MLA Sanjay was dismissed on February 4, giving him significant relief. Telangana Assembly Speaker Prasad Kumar rejected the petition after reviewing the submissions placed before him. The petition sought Sanjay’s disqualification on the ground that he had allegedly changed parties. However, the Speaker ruled that there was no proper evidence to support this claim.

The petition was filed by BRS MLA Jagadish Reddy, who urged the Speaker to disqualify Sanjay. After hearing the matter, the Speaker dismissed the petition. He stated that the material placed before him did not establish that Sanjay had switched parties. Along with Sanjay’s case, the Speaker also dismissed disqualification petitions filed against eight MLAs. Meanwhile, the Speaker adjourned the hearing on the disqualification petition involving Kadiyam Srihari to February 19.

Following the Speaker’s decision, Jagtial MLA Sanjay Kumar responded and welcomed the verdict. He clarified his political position and reaffirmed his party affiliation. “I am an MLA from the BRS party. Rs. 5 thousand per month is being deducted from my salary for the BRS party. I have given an affidavit that I am a BRS MLA,” Sanjay said. He stressed that these facts clearly showed his continued association with the BRS.

Meanwhile, the Speaker’s decision triggered reactions within political circles. BRS MLA Vivekananda Goud made strong remarks in response to the developments. He criticised statements made by Kadiyam Srihari and questioned his stand on party affiliation. “Kadiyam, stop talking about ethics. Admit before the Speaker that you have joined the Congress. You went to Delhi and covered yourself with the Congress scarf in the presence of Rahul Gandhi and are now misleading the people. They are trying to save themselves from disqualification by wasting time. The Speaker has given a clean chit to eight people saying there is no evidence,” Vivekananda said.

The dismissal of the disqualification petition against the Jagtial MLA has therefore settled the issue for now. However, the matter involving Kadiyam Srihari remains pending. With the hearing adjourned to February 19, attention will next shift to how the Speaker proceeds in that case. Meanwhile, the Speaker’s ruling has reinforced the requirement for clear and proper evidence in disqualification matters, especially when allegations of party switching are raised.
