Doctors Formed Ansar Interim in Srinagar Meeting

According to investigators, the main accused include Doctors Muzammil Ghani, Umar Nabi, Adil, Muzaffar Maulvi Irfan, Qari Aamir, Taufil Ghazi and others. They held a meeting in Srinagar in April 2022. During that meeting, they formed Ansar Interim. Adil was appointed as chief, while Maulvi Irfan became deputy.

During interrogation, the arrested accused revealed that they had already divided their roles. They also prepared operational codes. Umar took charge as coordinator. Meanwhile, Ghani handled finance and procurement. Since then, they arranged material required for the blasts.

In 2023, they purchased material and fertilizers from Sohna. As per Umar’s instructions, potassium nitrate was brought from a chemical shop in Faridabad. However, Umar admitted during questioning that he had no prior experience. He said he learned to make IEDs by watching online videos.

Umar’s Radicalization and Foiled Plot

Investigators found that Umar was the most radicalized among the group. Adil brought Danish, a South Kashmiri, to Alfalah University and kept him there. Umar then tried to persuade him to carry out a fidayeen attack. However, Danish reportedly backed out at the last minute.

Later, probe teams revealed that Umar had conspired to detonate a powerful car bomb in a crowded place in Delhi or at a key place of worship. Meanwhile, the Srinagar police foiled this plot. After that, Umar became extremely worried. Eventually, he committed suicide by blowing himself up in Delhi.

Investigators also found that he had earlier tried to join terrorist organizations in 2016 and 2018 but failed both times. The NIA continues to investigate the wider network and links in the Delhi blasts case.
