Appoint ERC Chairman, Members Or Face Agitation, Revanth Warns Govt
Hyderabad, Sept.4 (Maxim News): Congress MP A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday wrote a letter to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on the issue of appointment of a chairman and members of Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC).
Citing that several statutory bodies like Lokayukta and State Human Rights Commission were on the verge of extinction due to the hostile attitude of the State Government, Revanth Reddy doubted whether the ERC would also join the list of such organizations.
In his letter, Reddy told the Chief Minidter that the posts of the chairman of the commission and its members were lying vacant since the last eight months. He doubted if the Chief Minister had any intention to fill those posts. He said the discoms of the State were reeling under huge debts and there was lack of financial discipline in the absence of the ERC.
Citing that the exposures that he made over the irregularities committed by the officials of the Electricity department in Power Purchase Agreements and power plant constructions, he said there was no response yet from the Chief Minister despite the fact that he dared him for a public debate on the allegations made by him. He doubted that there was a conspiracy behind the inordinate delay in the appointment of the chairman and members in the wake of the allegations made by him. He urged the Chief Minister to take immediate steps for appointment of chairman and members of the Commission with a warning that the Congress would launch agitation on the issue. (Maxim News)
