Army Commander’s Polo Cup on 05 May 2018
Army Commanders’ Polo Cup will be played between the Indian Army and Hyderabad Polo and Riding Club on 5th May 2018 at Bison Polo Ground, Secunderabad. Lieutenant General DR Soni, PVSM, VSM, ADC, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, an ardent Polo enthusiast himself, will be the chief guest for the event. Senior Military serving and veteran officers and Civilian dignitaries including Additional Secretary to CM of Telangana State will grace the occasion.
The Bison Riding and Polo Institute (BRPI) has been hosting polo matches and equestrian events under the aegis of Bison Division for over two decades. The Institute provides facilities matching international standards with hard standing and lush grounds spread over 13 acres. It has contributed significantly, over the years, towards promoting Polo in the Southern Peninsula and has helped showcase Hyderabad-Secunderabad as a vibrant emerging Sporting and Tourism destination in the country.
A multitude of adventure activities and military pageants will add to the extravaganza with spectacular talent and spirit being showcased in events such as Combat free fall, Para Motoring, Khukri Dance, Kalaripayattu etc. The event culminates with a Military Band Display and the traditional Beating the Retreat Ceremony.
The Bison Polo Ground which provides a perfect platform to host such events also doubles up as a training ground being utilised by Station Military units to conduct various rehearsals and practices. These include actions to be taken by the Army columns and quick reaction teams in case of aid to civil authorities during natural calamities, urban insurgency situations, activation of engineering support columns and long duration outdoor training with troops and equipment. The month of May has seen fervent activities at the Bison Polo Ground with several of these events.
