Hyderabad, May 18: AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi requested the Telangana government to defer several degree examinations scheduled on May 28.
He appealed directly to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the Chief Secretary via social media to reschedule the upcoming exams. The scheduled date directly coincides with Eid al-Adha, which means exams would cause immense hardships for the student community. Religious scholars recently confirmed the date after observing moon sighting parameters in the region.
The examinations falling on the festival day include fourth and sixth semester undergraduate courses managed by Osmania University. Affected streams consist of BA, BCom, BSc Honors, BSc Biomedical Science, and BSW regular and backlog papers etc.
Owaisi noted that forcing candidates to appear for academic evaluations during major festivals remains unjust.
He urged the administration to coordinate with university panels to announce alternative dates soon.
The student community has expressed serious concerns over the overlap of professional timetables with major religious obligations.
Academic stress increases significantly when critical semester assessments clash with cultural celebrations. Representatives from various youth groups supported the call for postponement to ensure a level playing field for all affected applicants.
University authorities are reportedly reviewing the official schedule representation submitted by public representatives. Previous academic calendars often underwent revisions whenever state holidays shifted based on local lunar declarations. A revised timetable is expected to follow if the State Higher Education Department issues formal clarification orders to the institution.
The university seeks to balance the smooth completion of semesters while respecting community sentiment.
