- Asim Munir warning to Shia Muslims triggers tensions
- Shia protests in Pakistan escalate after Munir remarks
Hyderabad, March 23: Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir’s warning to Shia Muslims has triggered strong reactions and protests across the country. His remarks came during an Iftar dinner in Rawalpindi and have intensified tensions amid the ongoing geopolitical situation involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Munir made sharp comments targeting Shia Muslims who support Iran. He said those who support Khamenei should leave Pakistan and go to Iran. He also stated that Shias are unfit to live in Pakistan. These remarks have caused widespread anger within Shia communities, which see the comments as provocative and divisive.
Meanwhile, protests broke out in several major cities. Demonstrations were reported in Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Gilgit. These protests followed the assassination of Khamenei, which had already heightened tensions. As a result, violent incidents occurred during the protests. Reports indicated that about 30 people were killed and hundreds were injured.
Shia groups have strongly opposed the remarks and actions. They argue that Shias played a key role in the creation of Pakistan. Therefore, they see the comments as an attack on their identity and place in the country. At the same time, the Pakistan Army has taken steps to control the protests and curb the agitations.
However, tensions remain high. Shia leader b Javed issued a strong response to Munir’s remarks. He warned, “Do not think that the Shiites are keeping quiet.” He also highlighted that around 300,000 members of the country’s 800,000-strong army are Shias. This statement aimed to underline the community’s presence and influence.
Furthermore, Sheikh Javed demanded that Munir apologize to the Shia community. He warned that failure to do so could have serious consequences. “Otherwise, Pakistan will be destroyed,” Sheikh Javed warned. These developments have added to the growing unrest and concern within the country.
Meanwhile, the broader regional situation continues to influence events. The Israeli attack on Iran and Pakistan’s response to Shia protests have further fueled anger. Therefore, tensions between communities and authorities remain unresolved as the situation continues to evolve.
