Mumbai, August 14: Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 is leading Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 by a wide margin in advance bookings ahead of their Independence Day box-office clash.
According to industry tracking data, Awarapan 2 has recorded around ₹3.26 crore in gross day-one advance bookings so far. The film has sold approximately 1.02 lakh tickets across 5,934 shows.
Including blocked seats, the film’s potential gross currently stands at around ₹5.44 crore.
Maharashtra leads the advance bookings with around ₹1.13 crore, followed by Delhi at ₹1.10 crore. Uttar Pradesh has contributed ₹61.27 lakh, while Gujarat and West Bengal recorded ₹44.28 lakh and ₹36.62 lakh, respectively.
The strong pre-sales appear to be driven partly by nostalgia for the 2007 original, which developed a strong following over the years.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 stars Emraan Hashmi alongside Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi.
Batwara 1947 Trails Awarapan 2 in Advance Bookings
Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 has recorded around ₹81.39 lakh in day-one advance bookings. The film has sold approximately 29,261 tickets across 5,672 shows.
Including blocked seats, its current potential gross is estimated at around ₹2.46 crore.
Delhi is leading the bookings for Batwara 1947 with ₹59.16 lakh. Maharashtra follows with ₹43.17 lakh, while Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have contributed ₹26.79 lakh, ₹23.55 lakh and ₹15.07 lakh, respectively.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film stars Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal and Karan Deol.
Set against the backdrop of Partition, Batwara 1947 is backed by Aamir Khan Productions.
With both films targeting the Independence Day weekend, their opening-day performance will determine whether the pre-release booking trend translates into strong box-office numbers.
