Hyderabad, Feb. 23 (Maxim News): The Ayurvedic Village at SICA, Chanchalguda, was formally inaugurated today by Soumya Mishra, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services.
The Ayurvedic Village, a key reformative and welfare initiative of the department, has been reopened after a six-year gap.
Its revival marks an important step toward integrating healthcare services with correctional rehabilitation. Moreover, the initiative reflects the department’s renewed focus on prisoner welfare and community engagement.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Soumya Mishra said the Ayurvedic Village is a model project that combines affordable public healthcare with inmate rehabilitation.
The facility will offer authentic Ayurvedic treatments and therapies at nominal cost. Therefore, it will make traditional healthcare accessible to the general public while also strengthening the connection between prisons and society.
Soumya Mishra further explained that the centre has strong rehabilitative value. Inmates will receive structured training in Ayurvedic therapies and wellness services.
As a result, they will gain certified practical skills that can improve their employability after release.
In addition, the centre is fully operational with experienced Ayurvedic doctors, qualified therapists and trained staff to ensure quality service delivery.
The programme was attended by senior officials, including N. Murali Babu, IG Prisons; Dr. D. Srinivas, DIG, Hyderabad Range; M. Sampath, DIG, Warangal Range; N. Shiva Kumar Goud, Superintendent, CP Hyderabad; Dr. Y. B. Ramesh and Dr. M. Gowtham, Ayurveda physicians; and S. Srinivasa Reddy, Principal, SICA.
Furthermore, the department announced plans to replicate this model by establishing similar Ayurvedic Villages in other prisons in the near future. (Maxim News)
