Hyderabad, Jan 10 (Maxim News): It is known that during the Jubilee Hills elections, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had allotted a ministerial post to Azharuddin, who had previously contested from there, to resolve the issue between the contestants. However, since Azharuddin was not a member of any house, he had to be given a chance in one of the houses within six months. In fact, there was a campaign to remove Azharuddin from the ministerial post as there was no chance for the MLC. However, MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who had come out after falling out with BRS, resigned from her MLC position and gave an opportunity to Revanth Reddy. The reason for this is that the Congress party wanted to keep Azharuddin in the newly vacant position.
It seems that Minister Azharuddin will contest the seat of Nizamabad Local Bodies MLC vacated by the resignation of Kalvakuntla Kavitha. The recommendation to appoint him as an MLC under the Governor’s quota has been pending for some time now. With this, it seems that Congress leaders have focused on Nizamabad as a precaution. It is known that after Kavitha, who was suspended from BRS, resigned from the post of MLC, the seat of ‘Nizamabad Local Bodies MLC’ that she represented has become vacant.
On the other hand, the recommendation to appoint Azharuddin as an MLC under the Governor’s quota is pending with the Governor. The Governor has not taken any decision due to several petitions filed in the Supreme Court regarding this issue. However, CM Revanth Reddy took Azharuddin into the cabinet with the belief that the Governor’s approval would be obtained even if there was a delay in this matter. But that did not happen. Azharuddin, who took oath on October 31 last year, according to the rules, must become a member of the Legislative Assembly or the Council within six months, that is, by April 31. Otherwise, he will have to step down from the ministerial post.
However, Kavitha’s resignation from the Nizamabad seat within this period has come as a surprise to Revanth. In this context, it is learned that Congress party leaders are considering fielding Azharuddin in the Nizamabad local body MLC by-election as a precaution. It is reported that the Congress party believes that they will win a majority of seats in the municipal elections, and with that, it will be easy to make the party candidate win as a ‘local’ MLC.
There is a six-month time to hold the election for the MLC seat vacated by Kavitha’s resignation. However, the government intends to hold municipal elections before that. With this, the by-election notification for this seat is likely to be released only after the municipal elections. The voters in it will be corporators, councilors, ZPTC and MPTC of the corporations and municipalities within the scope of the MLC seat of local bodies.
The term of municipalities and parishads has now expired for a long time in the state. Municipal elections are likely to be held in the second or third week of February. Once they are completed, the state government will prepare a voter list with the newly elected corporators and councilors and send a proposal to the Central Election Commission for conducting the by-elections. Government sources say that even if there are no parishad voters, the by-election process can be conducted with municipal voters. With this, the campaign is going on that Azharuddin’s election is now a formality. (Maxim News)
