The Telangana government recommended Azharuddin’s name earlier. Before that, it had also sent the names of Professor Kodandaram and Amer Ali Khan. However, a Supreme Court case delayed the process. Therefore, the government later sent fresh proposals.

In the second list, the government recommended Kodandaram and Azharuddin. However, the Governor kept the file pending due to the ongoing court matter.

Last month, the Supreme Court clarified the issue. The court said the Governor can take a decision. It also said its order does not block the approval.

Therefore, the state government expected a quick decision. However, approval did not come. Senior leaders then met the Governor and requested action. Meanwhile, the Governor got transferred. Now, the new Governor must take a call on the pending file.

During a recent hearing, the court again said the government may approach the High Court if implementation delays continue.

Azharuddin | Cabinet changes under discussion

Meanwhile, discussions about Cabinet changes continue. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy reportedly discussed the issue with PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud. He also spoke with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and minister Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Sources say the Congress leadership may include a leader from the Lambada community. Ramchandra Naik is also waiting for the Deputy Speaker post. However, the election is still pending. At the same time, he is also trying for a Cabinet berth.

Devarakonda MLA Balu Naik’s name is also under discussion. In addition, the party may change portfolios of two or three ministers. Congress sources say the leadership wants the Chief Minister to work freely. Therefore, some changes remain possible.

Earlier, leaders expected changes after the Budget 2026 session. However, the party high command is busy with elections in several states.

Some Telangana ministers may also get election duties. Therefore, Cabinet changes may happen after the election schedule ends.
