Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has approached a Hyderabad court seeking the removal of online and television content allegedly linking him personally to the POCSO case involving his son, Bandi Bhagirath.
The petition was filed before the City Civil Court in Hyderabad. The minister sought directions against satellite television channels, YouTube channels and social media platforms to immediately remove what he termed defamatory content. He also requested the court to restrain media organisations and digital platforms from publishing or circulating similar content in the future.
Advocate Karunasagar, appearing for Bandi Sanjay Kumar, informed the court that two interlocutory applications were filed as part of the defamation suit. According to the counsel, the first application sought directions to digital media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and X, along with television channels, not to publish or broadcast defamatory material concerning the minister in connection with the case against his son.
The second application sought immediate removal of all such content circulated during the past week across social media and digital platforms.
Bandi Sanjay Moves Court Over Defamation Claims
The counsel also warned that failure to comply with court directions could attract contempt proceedings. He stated that legal action would be initiated against individuals or organisations violating the proposed orders.
The legal move comes amid continuing controversy surrounding the case involving Bandi Bhagirath, a student of Mahindra University. Bhagirath had earlier approached the Telangana High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a case registered at Petbasheerabad Police Station.
Police booked him under Sections 74 and 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to sexual harassment and outraging modesty, along with Sections 11 and 12 of the POCSO Act.
According to the complaint filed by the minor girl’s mother, Bhagirath allegedly entered into a relationship with the girl in June 2025 on the promise of marriage. The complaint further alleged that between October 2025 and January 2026, he subjected her to inappropriate physical conduct and pressured her to consume alcohol.
The FIR also stated that the girl allegedly attempted self harm twice after the relationship ended in January 2026.
Further proceedings in both the anticipatory bail matter and the defamation petition are expected in the coming days.
