Bayon Sales by 2027 | Hyundai Motor India aims to sell at least 2.5 lakh units annually of its Creta and newly launched Bayon SUVs from 2027. The company wants to strengthen its position in the competitive mid-size SUV segment.
Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg announced the target while launching the Bayon. He said the combined annual sales target of 2.5 lakh units was a starting point, not a ceiling. Hyundai expects both models to attract different customer groups.
The mid-size utility vehicle segment, covering SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles between four and 4.4 metres long, sold around nine lakh units in the previous financial year. The segment contributed nearly 35% of Hyundai’s domestic sales in FY2026.
Hyundai sold close to two lakh units annually in this segment during the previous two financial years, relying mainly on the Creta.
Bayon Sales by 2027 | Hyundai Bayon Enters Crowded Mid-Size SUV Market
Hyundai has positioned the Bayon between its compact Venue and established Creta. The company launched the new model at an introductory price of ₹9.99 lakh, ex-showroom.
The Bayon is intended to expand Hyundai’s customer base rather than simply shift existing Creta buyers to another model. Industry analysts say the segment’s growth could support multiple products from the same manufacturer.
However, competition remains intense. Maruti Suzuki offers the Grand Vitara, Victoris and Ertiga, while Tata Motors competes with the Curvv and Sierra.
Creta sales fell more than 9% year-on-year to 89,727 units during the first six months of FY2027. This decline came despite growth of more than 50% in the wider segment, according to the supplied industry figures.
Garg attributed part of the decline to limited diesel supplies. The diesel version of the Creta reportedly had a waiting period exceeding one month.
Hyundai plans to offer the Bayon with petrol and compressed natural gas powertrains. The company does not currently plan diesel or electric versions of this model. Garg said market research indicated that petrol would account for the largest share of demand in this category.

The Bayon will be manufactured at Hyundai’s Chennai plant. The company expects the model to improve capacity utilisation following the shift of Venue production to Pune.
Hyundai currently offers 10 models in India, including six SUVs, two sedans and two hatchbacks. Its portfolio includes petrol, diesel, CNG and electric vehicles.
In May 2025, Hyundai announced plans to introduce 26 models in India by the end of this decade. The roadmap includes 20 internal combustion engine vehicles and six electric vehicles, covering new models and updates.
Hyundai Motor Group has also committed to investing $15.5 billion in India by 2032. The investment reflects the company’s long-term plans for the Indian market.
