Hyderabad, July 14: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team after its historic 270 run victory over England in the one off Test at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
The win marked India’s first Women’s Test victory at the iconic venue and added another milestone to the team’s growing success in international cricket.
BCCI President Mithun Manhas described the triumph as one of the greatest moments in Indian women’s cricket.
He said winning a Test at Lord’s reflected the team’s courage, discipline and belief. He also praised captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the players, coaches and support staff for delivering a memorable performance on one of cricket’s biggest stages.
Manhas acknowledged former BCCI Honorary Secretary and current ICC Chairman Jay Shah for his contribution to the development of women’s cricket in India. He said sustained support and long term planning had helped create the foundation for such achievements.
BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia said the victory was the result of consistent investment in women’s cricket through stronger domestic competitions, improved professional support and better opportunities for players.
He also credited Jay Shah’s initiatives, including pay parity for centrally contracted women cricketers, higher domestic match fees and the launch of the Women’s Premier League, for strengthening the women’s game.
The BCCI said the Lord’s triumph would inspire future generations of cricketers and further accelerate the growth of women’s cricket in India.
The board congratulated the entire Indian women’s cricket team, coaching staff and support personnel for achieving a landmark victory at the Home of Cricket.
