Hyderabad: Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever has praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as one of the world’s most inspiring and wise leaders.
Speaking in Mumbai on Saturday, De Wever said Modi’s rational thinking and approach to decision-making could provide inspiration and guidance to leaders around the world.
The Belgian Prime Minister said he had the honour of meeting Modi in New Delhi on Friday during his visit to India. He also recalled that an earlier visit to India had been cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
De Wever said many world leaders use threatening language while addressing global issues. In contrast, he said Modi’s words offer inspiration and guidance.
“I want to follow the words of Narendra Modi,” De Wever said, according to the remarks reported during his visit.
Belgium PM Praises Modi During India-EU Trade Talks
The Belgian Prime Minister was speaking during high-level discussions on the India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement in Mumbai.
De Wever also criticised the tariff stance adopted by US President Donald Trump, while highlighting the importance of constructive international engagement.
His remarks come amid efforts to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties between India and European countries, including progress on the proposed India-EU trade agreement.
