Bengaluru Report First Coronavirus Death After a Long Gap

Bengaluru has reported its first Coronavirus-related death in a considerable period, according to an official announcement by the Karnataka Health Department. An 85-year-old man succumbed to COVID-19 on Saturday, marking a renewed fatality from the virus in the city.

Across Karnataka, 108 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours, out of which five individuals tested positive. The total number of active COVID-19 cases in the state now stands at 38. Of these, 32 patients are currently undergoing treatment in Bengaluru itself.

Reacting to the slight increase in cases, Karnataka Minister for Health Dinesh Gundu Rao addressed the media in Bengaluru on Saturday. “At present, there is no need for concern. This is a very normal situation. The number of COVID-19 cases has seen a slight rise over the past 15 days,” said Dinesh Gundu Rao.

He advised individuals experiencing severe respiratory symptoms, particularly hospital inpatients, to undergo COVID-19 testing. He further recommended that people with low immunity, pregnant women, and children exercise caution when visiting crowded places, and if possible, wear masks. However, he clarified that wearing masks is not mandatory and no travel restrictions are currently in place.

Dinesh Gundu Rao stated that “the coronavirus has now become a part of our ecosystem and should be treated like any other virus.” He emphasized that there is no need for fear unless severe symptoms develop, and the public can continue with their regular daily activities. Maintaining hand hygiene and personal cleanliness can help prevent not only COVID-19 but also other illnesses, he added.
