Hyderabad: The Consumer Rights Commission has imposed a fine of Rs 2.20 lakh on Vijaya Diagnostic Center for giving false medical reports. According to the case details, Bhargavi, a resident of the Dilsukhnagar area of Hyderabad, approached Vijaya Diagnostic Center on the advice of her gynecologist. She went to the center for an NT Scan as part of her pregnancy care. After conducting the test, the staff at the diagnostic center reported that the baby’s health condition was normal. However, Bhargavi remained suspicious of the findings.

Therefore, she decided to get the test done again at another diagnostic center. The second report revealed a serious issue. It showed that the baby in the womb had a cyst, described as a lump measuring about 11 mm, on the neck. This finding contradicted the earlier report given by Vijaya Diagnostic Center. The discrepancy raised serious concerns about the accuracy of the initial test.

Meanwhile, Bhargavi expressed her grief over the situation. She stated that if she had believed the false report given by Vijaya Diagnostic Center, the lives of the mother and child would have been in danger. Based on medical advice, she later had to terminate her pregnancy. She then approached the Consumer Rights Commission and lodged a complaint against the diagnostic center, alleging negligence by its staff.

The commission examined the complaint and investigated the case. After reviewing the facts, it concluded that there was clear negligence in the attitude of Vijaya Diagnostic Center. Therefore, the commission imposed a penalty and ordered compensation. It directed the diagnostic center to pay Rs 2 lakh as compensation for the mental anguish caused to the victim. It also ordered payment of Rs 20,000 towards case expenses and Rs 1,700 as the test fee, to be paid immediately.
