- Municipal election campaign highlights Congress welfare claims
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka alleged that the previous BRS government led by KCR did not release funds to constituencies represented by Congress MLAs. He made the remarks while addressing a municipal election campaign meeting in Waira in Khammam district. He said the issue affected development and welfare delivery over the past decade. Therefore, he urged voters to assess governance records during the elections.
Bhatti Vikramarka also said the BRS government failed to provide houses and house sites to the poor for ten years. However, he contrasted this with the earlier Congress record. He said the Congress government had built Indiramma houses and colonies in many villages in the past. He added that the present Congress government is following the same approach now. Meanwhile, he linked housing policy to broader welfare priorities.
During the campaign, Bhatti Vikramarka focused on funding decisions and welfare spending. He said the struggle for Telangana aimed to ensure resources served the people. He then accused the BRS government of failing to use funds for the poor. He said the Congress government introduced key welfare steps earlier and continues to expand them. Also, he highlighted sector specific measures to underline continuity in policy.
Quoting him directly, Bhatti Vikramarka said, “We fought to spend our funds on ourselves and achieved Telangana. The BRS government did not spend the funds on the poor. KCR did not give funds to the constituencies of Congress MLAs. It was the Congress government that first implemented free electricity for agriculture. Currently, we are building Young India Integrated Schools in each constituency with Rs. 200 crore. Congress candidates should be made to win the municipal elections.” He made this appeal while addressing party workers and voters.
He further linked education and agriculture to long term growth. He said the government is building Young India Integrated Schools in every constituency with Rs. 200 crore. Later, he urged voters to support Congress candidates in the municipal elections. He said electoral victories would help continue welfare and development initiatives. The remarks formed a key part of the Congress campaign narrative in the region, according to the party leaders present at the event.
