Bihar to Offer 125 Units of Free Electricity: CM Nitish Kumar
Motihari (Bihar)/Hyderabad, July 18 (Maxim News): In a major pro-people announcement, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar declared that the State government will provide 125 units of free electricity to households across the State, stating the move was made “in keeping with the advice” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The declaration came during a public rally in Motihari, East Champaran, where CM Nitish Kumar shared the stage with PM Modi, who inaugurated development projects worth over ₹7,000 crore earlier in the day.
Power Relief for People of Bihar
Speaking at the rally, Nitish Kumar, the longest-serving Chief Minister of Bihar, said:
“The people will now have to pay nothing for electricity. Once Sir (PM Modi) leaves, we will return to Patna and give the necessary approval. That’s why a cabinet meeting has been scheduled later today.”

This new scheme is expected to ease the financial burden on lakhs of families, especially those from lower-income groups.
Cabinet Approval Expected Soon
The announcement, which comes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, is seen as a politically strategic move by the JD(U)-BJP alliance. A formal cabinet approval is expected within hours, solidifying the decision into policy.
Strong Alignment with PM Modi
Reaffirming his alliance and admiration for Prime Minister Modi, Nitish Kumar added:
“We respect him a lot and have always worked in accordance with his advice.”
This public show of unity and coordination comes as the NDA in Bihar seeks a strong electoral mandate in the upcoming polls, with CM Nitish Kumar aiming for a record fifth consecutive term in office.
