BIS Hyderabad Organize Safety Training For Telangana Labour

Hyderabad, Aug 19 (Maxim News) The Hyderabad branch of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hosted a one-day workshop on workplace safety for senior officials from the Telangana Labour Department, held at the BIS office in Moula Ali, the program was a joint effort with the State Labour Department to improve awareness and compliance with safety standards.

A total of 35 senior officials attended, including Joint Commissioners of Labour G. Sunitha, Shyam Sunder Reddy, and M. Rajendra Prasad. Their participation highlighted the Telangana government’s focus on occupational health and safety Standards as Tools for Safety:

P.V. Srikanth, Director and Head of the BIS Hyderabad Branch, inaugurated the event. He stressed that workplace safety is not just a legal requirement but a moral duty. He described BIS standards not as mere technical guidelines but as crucial tools for preventing accidents, protecting lives, and building a more productive workforce.

The training sessions were led by Rakesh Tanneeru and K. Kavin, with expert input from Prabhath Kumar and Bhavana Kasturi. The workshop covered a range of vital topics, including:

Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Sector-specific safety protocols, Occupational health and Safety management Systems (IS/ISO 45091.2018), Safety codes for high risk construction activities and the use of safety colors and signs.

Through interactive discussions and case studies, officials learned how to effectively apply these standards during their inspections.

The collaboration between BIS and the State Labour Department is expected to lead to a reduction in workplace accidents, stronger enforcement of safety laws, and improved worker welfare. The goal is to empower officials with the knowledge and tools to identify risks and ensure compliance, ultimately fostering a proactive safety culture throughout Telangana.
