BJP Sends Legal Notice To Omar Abdullah

New Delhi, July 13: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a legal notice to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, warning of a Rs 100 crore defamation suit over his recent allegations that the party was attempting to topple his government by luring MLAs.

The BJP has termed the allegations “baseless” and demanded that Abdullah either produce evidence or issue a public apology.

Omar Abdullah Alleges BJP Tried to Poach MLAs

A few days ago, Omar Abdullah alleged that representatives of the BJP had approached legislators from his party with offers of cash and ministerial positions.

According to Abdullah, the MLAs were allegedly promised Rs 20 crore to Rs 30 crore, cabinet berths and restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s full statehood if they joined the BJP.

He claimed that attempts similar to the so-called “Operation Lotus” were being made to destabilise his government.

BJP Rejects Allegations

The BJP strongly denied the accusations, calling them false and politically motivated.

Party national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the allegations were completely baseless and challenged Omar Abdullah to substantiate his claims with evidence.

The BJP also demanded that the Chief Minister publicly apologise if he could not prove the allegations.

Following the controversy, the BJP served an official legal notice to Omar Abdullah.

The notice states that if Abdullah fails to provide evidence supporting his allegations or does not issue a public apology, the party will initiate a Rs 100 crore defamation suit against him.

There has been no official response from Omar Abdullah to the legal notice at the time of filing this report.
