Continuing its winning streak, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has won the maximum seats in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council in Assam.The party, which leads a coalition government in the state, has won 16 out of 26 seats for which election was held.Two seats have been notched by Independents.
The BJP’s ally at Dispur, AGP, which had contested the KACC polls independently, has not won any seat so far.Meanwhile, a tensed atmosphere prevailed in the counting centre at Diphu in the morning when violent protests were staged there by a section of counting agents and political activists. Police had to resort to firing in the air to control the situation.
