Hyderabad, July 20 (Maxim News): As the Bonalu celebrations continue to reverberate with cultural fervor across Hyderabad, GHMC Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshmi visited the Sri Mahankali Ammavaru Temple in Amberpet on Sunday and presented silk robes to the deity on behalf of the Telangana government.
Speaking to the media after the ceremonial offering, Mayor Vijayalakshmi said, “It is a great joy and privilege to offer silk robes to Goddess Mahankali during the auspicious month of Ashada. Bonalu is not just a festival, but a vibrant reflection of Telangana’s rich culture and spiritual heritage.”
She highlighted that the state government has allocated ₹20 crore this year for Bonalu celebrations across the Greater Hyderabad region, ensuring that all arrangements are made with proper coordination among government departments.
Seamless Arrangements for Devotees
The Mayor emphasized that the Bonalu festival is being celebrated on a grand scale like never before across the city. Thanks to increased funding and efficient planning, authorities have ensured that devotees have access to amenities like clean drinking water, temporary medical camps, sanitation services, and decorative lighting at major temples.
“We prayed to Mahankali Ammavaru to bless the citizens of Hyderabad with peace, happiness, and good health,” she added.
Bonalu: A Symbol of Telangana’s Identity
The Bonalu festival, held annually during the month of Ashada, is one of the most important traditional festivals in Telangana. Devotees offer pots of cooked rice and perform rituals to honor Goddess Mahankali, believing it brings protection and prosperity.
As the festivities reach their peak in areas like Amberpet, Lal Darwaza, Balkampet, Uppal, and Secunderabad, city officials and volunteers have been working tirelessly to manage crowds and maintain order, while preserving the spiritual atmosphere.
