BRS Accuses Revanth Reddy Of Tokenism In Azharuddin Induction
- Abdullah Sohail calls Azharuddin’s inclusion a political eyewash
- BRS says Congress acted out of fear of losing Jubilee Hills by-election
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) senior leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail has strongly criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of attempting to appease the Muslim community through token representation. Commenting on the induction of former cricketer Md Azharuddin into the Telangana cabinet, Sohail termed the move a “political eyewash,” alleging it was intended to divert public attention from the Congress government’s unfulfilled promises.
“Revanth Reddy wants Muslims to believe that one cabinet post can erase two years of denial, deception, and discrimination,” Sohail said during his statement on Friday. He added that the Chief Minister had “insulted the community by keeping the cabinet without a single Muslim minister for 23 months” and was now seeking credit for correcting his own negligence.
Sohail alleged that Azharuddin’s appointment under the Model Code of Conduct was politically motivated and carried out under pressure. “This has never happened before in Telangana’s political history. It took the anger of Jubilee Hills voters and the pressure from BRS to force Revanth Reddy to act,” he remarked. He added that the move was not a response to community concerns but to the fear of defeat in the upcoming bypoll.
He further accused the Congress government of arrogance and hypocrisy in presenting Azharuddin’s inclusion as an act of generosity rather than accountability. “Representation is a right, not a favour. This arrogance exposes the Congress mindset,” Sohail asserted. He pointed out the contradiction in Revanth Reddy’s earlier justification that there were no Muslim legislators to include in the cabinet, citing the example of former MLC Amer Ali Khan. “Now, without a Muslim MLA or MLC, he suddenly discovered a way to induct Azharuddin. What changed? Only the fear of losing Jubilee Hills,” he said.
Calling the move “too little, too late,” Sohail criticized the Congress for failing to deliver on the promises made in its Minorities Declaration. “Where are the ₹1,000 crore subsidised loans for youth and women? Where is the Minorities Youth Commission? Where are the scholarships under Abdul Kalam Taufa-e-Taleem? Not a single rupee has reached a single beneficiary,” he said.
He accused the government of offering optics without genuine progress. “The Revanth Reddy government believes in headlines, not in help. Muslims voted for partnership; what they got is photo-op politics,” Sohail remarked. He urged Jubilee Hills voters to teach the Congress a lesson in the by-election, warning that communities would not tolerate symbolic gestures in place of real representation.
