BRS Brought State Under Debt. of Rs. Rs 8.21 Lakh Crore says Bhatti Vikramarka

BRS | Hyderabad, July 3 (Maxim News): Bhatti Vikramarka, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister of Telangana, alleged on Friday that the previous BRS government left a total debt of Rs 8.21 lakh crore, including unpaid dues of thousands of crores. He made these claims at a press conference held at the Secretariat, accusing former Finance Minister Harish Rao of spreading misinformation about the current government’s financial management.

Bhatti Vikramarka alleged that Harish Rao, who served as Finance Minister under the BRS government, was using social media platforms to spread what the Deputy CM described as false claims about Telangana’s financial position. He stated that the BRS government ran its administration for ten years on the basis of what he called falsehoods, and that KTR and Harish Rao were now targeting the current government to divert attention from their own alleged financial irregularities.

According to Bhatti Vikramarka, the current government has repaid Rs 2,08,061 crore in principal and interest obligations in just two-and-a-half years, all arising from loans taken by the previous BRS administration. He claimed that despite this financial burden, the present government has continued welfare schemes without interruption. He further stated that BRS-era high-interest loans are being restructured, which he said has reduced the annual interest liability from Rs 34,000 crore to Rs 11,000 crore.

Bhatti Vikramarka also made allegations regarding Singareni Collieries Company Limited, claiming the BRS government pushed the state-owned coal company into financial difficulty over a decade. He alleged that BRS leaders failed to secure a single new coal block for Singareni during their ten-year tenure and accused them of actively obstructing new block allocations. He stated that BRS leaders were now visiting Singareni areas and making what he called misleading claims about the organisation.

Furthermore, the Deputy CM disclosed that the Telangana government has ordered a full-scale vigilance inquiry into allegations of coal diversion that reportedly occurred during the previous administration. He stated that the Singareni Vigilance Director has been directed to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter. The government has also begun negotiations with the central government to secure new coal block allocations for Singareni, he added.

Bhatti Vikramarka also challenged former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to respond to questions about the Rs 8.21 lakh crore debt figure. He asserted that former CM KCR and Harish Rao have no political future and are creating noise to remain relevant. BRS leaders have not issued an immediate public response to the allegations made at the press conference, as per information available at the time of this report.

The exchange marks the latest in a prolonged public dispute between the ruling Congress government and the BRS opposition over Telangana’s financial management, debt levels, and the performance of state enterprises including Singareni. Both sides have repeatedly traded accusations since the Congress government assumed office following the December 2023 state assembly elections. (Maxim News)
