Hyderabad, July 3: The Congress on Friday alleged that India’s electoral democracy faces serious challenges under the present Central government and urged the Supreme Court to take steps to safeguard the integrity, transparency and accountability of the election process.
Congress general secretary K. C. Venugopal made the remarks in a post on X while releasing a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of India by 23 Opposition parties and an Independent Member of Parliament.
Congress on Electoral Democracy
Venugopal said the Opposition parties had written to the Chief Justice on June 28 expressing concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, the functioning of the Election Commission of India and other election related issues.
He said the Supreme Court has the constitutional responsibility to ensure that elections remain free and fair and that injustice does not prevail in the democratic process.
