Hyderabad, Sept. 9: BRS women MLAs P Sabitha Indra Reddy, V Sunitha Laxma Reddy and Kova Lakshmi on Wednesday demanded an apology from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over an alleged police assault.
The legislators alleged that male police personnel humiliated and physically handled them during a confrontation on the Assembly premises on Monday.
They said they sought a meeting with Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to explain their grievances. However, they alleged that the Speaker did not meet them.
Speaking to the media after the suspension of BRS members, the women MLAs said they were dragged during the confrontation.
They alleged that police personnel pulled them by their hair and sarees. They also claimed that they could have suffered serious injuries without support from BRS legislators D Sudheer Reddy and Naveen Kumar Reddy.
BRS Women MLAs Question Government Response
Sabitha Indra Reddy alleged that male police personnel were deployed around women legislators during the confrontation.
She contrasted this with the deployment of women police personnel around BRS leaders T Harish Rao and KT Rama Rao.
The BRS legislators also criticised the government for discussing a woman constable’s complaint against their party MLAs.
They questioned why the alleged assault on women legislators was not being discussed in the House.
The MLAs also questioned Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s remarks on Dalit self respect.
They asked whether the self respect of women was not part of Telangana’s self respect.
The women legislators said BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao had expressed concern over the incident.
They also criticised women leaders from the ruling Congress, including Minister D Seethakka, for not speaking out in their support.
