Hyderabad, Oct 3: Two students were arrested after a brawl at the University of Hyderabad campus and were sent to judicial custody, police said.
The incident took place near the North Shopping Complex around 1:40 am on Friday, October 2, a few days after the university’s students’ union elections. Police registered two cases based on complaints from students.
According to Gachibowli police, research scholar Akash Kumar alleged that student Akash Bhati called him while he was walking with friends and attempted to strangle him with a belt.
Other students and university security personnel intervened and separated the two, according to the complaint.
Later, when Akash Kumar went to the police station to lodge his complaint, Bhati allegedly picked up an iron stand and assaulted another student, Barasia Gosh. Police said she sustained injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital.
Following the registration of an FIR, police arrested Akash Bhati.
Two Cases Registered After University Brawl
In a separate complaint, student Kamal alleged that Mohit assaulted him during the altercation. Police subsequently arrested Mohit in connection with the second case.
Gachibowli Inspector K Saidulu confirmed that two cases were registered based on complaints from the students and that both accused were arrested.
The incident reportedly followed disputes linked to the recently concluded student union elections.
Police have registered the cases based on the complaints and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the campus clash. The allegations against the arrested students remain subject to the investigation and judicial process.
