BRS Leaders Placed Under House Arrest Ahead of TIMS Visit

Hyderabad: Several Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders were placed under house arrest on Saturday as they planned to visit the recently inaugurated Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospital in Sanathnagar.

The leaders wanted to inspect the hospital and enquire about the medical services being provided to patients. Heavy police deployment was reported at the residences of several BRS MLAs, MLCs and senior leaders.

Secunderabad Parliament constituency BRS in-charge Talasani Sai Kiran Yadav, Korutla MLA Dr K Sanjay and MLC Shambipur Raju were among those placed under house arrest, according to reports.

Police personnel were deployed at Shambipur Raju’s residence from around 5 a.m. Raju questioned the deployment and asked whether an elected public representative could be prevented from visiting a hospital.

BRS Leaders Planned Visit to Sanathnagar TIMS

The Sanathnagar TIMS hospital was constructed during the previous BRS government and was inaugurated by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on August 17.

The hospital is spread across 22 acres and offers multiple specialities, including cardiac, renal, transplant and trauma care. It has 31 operation theatres and other advanced medical facilities.

Doctors have also reportedly begun conducting surgeries at the hospital in addition to outpatient services. The BRS leaders said they wanted to visit the facility and assess the services available to patients.

The house arrests come amid an ongoing political dispute between the BRS and Congress over the development and inauguration of the Sanathnagar TIMS hospital. Recent reports have also documented preventive police action against BRS leaders in connection with proposed visits and political programmes.

The reasons given by police for the latest deployment were not detailed in the report. The BRS leaders, meanwhile, objected to being prevented from visiting the hospital.
