Hyderabad, July 3: At least 40 people, including women and children, were killed after a passenger bus plunged into a ravine in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, officials said.

Officials said eight passengers were rescued from the accident site and shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Preliminary reports suggested that the bus may have suffered brake failure before skidding off the road while negotiating a sharp bend in the mountainous region. Authorities said the exact cause of the crash would be determined through an official investigation.
Rescue teams and local authorities launched relief operations immediately after the accident.
Road accidents are frequent in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to difficult terrain, adverse weather conditions and traffic violations. Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the incident.
