BRS MLAs Stages Walkout After Komatireddy’s Remarks
Hyderabad, March 22 (Maxim News): The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) members staged a walkout from the Assembly on Saturday, protesting against the attitude of the Treasury benches toward the opposition.
The incident occurred during Question Hour when former Roads and Buildings Minister V. Prashanth Reddy and the current R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy engaged in a heated exchange over road infrastructure development in the state.
Prashanth Reddy pointed out that under the BRS government, 8,672 km of double-lane roads and 669 km of four-lane roads were constructed at a cost of nearly Rs. 22,000 crore. In contrast, he claimed that in the last 10 months, the Congress government had completed only 55 km out of its targeted 769 km, citing figures from Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s budget speech.
He also questioned the Minister about the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) and sought clarification on how the government planned to raise Rs. 11,200 crore for its 40% share and repay contractors for the 60% share in the proposed projects.
Responding to these claims, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy criticized the BRS government for failing to complete the Uppal flyover in the last 10 years, despite it being a National Highways project. He assured that the Congress government was expediting the work and would complete it within 18 months.
Taking a dig at Prashanth Reddy, Komatireddy remarked, “He was busy performing pujas and yagas, constructing the Secretariat, and spending time at Pragathi Bhavan.”
Prashanth Reddy immediately shot back, addressing the Speaker: “Sir, I perform pujas and yagas because I am spiritual and believe in God. What is wrong with that?”
He further accused the Minister of dodging his direct question regarding funding for HAM projects, instead choosing to criticize his personal beliefs.
In response, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy defended his remark, saying it was a casual comment about the former Minister’s past engagements. However, unhappy with his response, BRS members walked out of the House in protest. (Maxim News)
