Delhi/Hyderabad, May 24 (Maxim News): Coronavirus is once again spreading in the country. This time it is creating a stir in the form of new variants. After almost a year and a half, Covid-19 cases are being registered in many states. The spread of the virus is especially high in non-rural areas.
new variants LF.7 and NB.1.8.1, which emerged from the JN.1 variant, are spreading rapidly in India, the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) said on Saturday.
New cases have come to light in Delhi, maharashtra, karnataka, kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, maharashtra, While a new case was registered in Odisha after a year and a half, the capital region recorded the highest number of Covid cases after three years. Kerala recorded the highest number of 273 Covid cases, Karnataka 35, Maharashtra Mumbai 95, Thane 10 and Delhi 23 cases.
Although patients are being admitted to hospitals with symptoms of the virus in many states, including the Telugu states, no official announcement has been made. At the same time, the Union Health Ministry has not issued any guidelines for the states. The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the JN.1 variant as a ‘variant of interest’ due to its rapid spread. However, it has not been declared a ‘variant of concern’ for now.

On the other hand, doctors say that despite the rapid spread of new variants, the symptoms remain the same. The symptoms of these new subtypes are generally similar to the previous Omicron variants. The main symptoms are sore throat, mild cough, fatigue and fever. However, doctors say that symptoms such as loss of taste and smell, which were seen in older variants like Delta, are not seen as much in those infected with these new variants.
Although medical experts say that the symptoms are mild with the current spread of the virus, many states have issued Covid-19 guidelines as a precautionary measure. They are asking for mandatory wearing of masks and maintaining cleanliness and personal hygiene. Special wards are being prepared in hospitals with beds, oxygen, and medicines. However, medical experts suggest that it is better for those at high risk (elderly, chronically ill) to take a booster dose of the vaccine. (Maxim News)
