Hyderabad: BRS working president K Taraka Rama Rao on Monday strongly condemned the arrest of BRSV leaders during a protest near the Assembly. He described the police action as “atrocious” and said it reflected suppression of dissent similar to the Emergency era.
The protest, led by BRSV leaders, focused on key student demands. These included the release of pending scholarships, clearance of fee reimbursement arrears, and fulfilment of the promise to fill two lakh government jobs. However, the situation escalated when police detained several leaders during the demonstration.
Meanwhile, Rama Rao said the students were raising legitimate concerns. He stated, “Instead of clearing dues, the government chose to suppress dissent.” He argued that the administration failed to address the core issues affecting students and unemployed youth. Therefore, he called for immediate corrective action.
He also demanded the immediate release of all arrested BRSV leaders. In addition, he urged the government to honour its commitments to students. According to him, delays in scholarships and job notifications have created uncertainty among young people.
Furthermore, Rama Rao criticised Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. He accused him of neglecting the education sector and failing to implement the promised job calendar. He also alleged that the government was ignoring serious concerns in residential schools. These included the reported deaths of around 127 students, which he said had raised alarm among parents and students alike.
Later, he reiterated that the government must respond responsibly. He stressed that student issues require urgent attention rather than forceful suppression. The remarks come amid growing political tension over education and employment concerns in the state.
