Build Roads For Longevity: Tummala

Hyderabad, Sept.22 (Maxim News): Roads & Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao today directed the officials concerned to complete on a war-footing the works pertaining to the national highways across the State.

At a workshop on the roads at National Academy of Construction (NAC) Auditorium here, he instructed the officials to transform the State with the best national highways and beautify them with the greenery along the stretches. The government was spending huge funds for the development of the roads and quality is a must for longevity of the roads, he observed. The officials should focus on quality to build the roads for long term objectives to push economic growth of the State, he said. By the time of State formation, there were 24,950km long roads comprising 70 per cent of single line roads of 16864 km length, he said. However, the TRS Government has accorded top priority for national highways and expansion of the existing roads in the State, he said.

The State government has allocated Rs 12,000 crore for expansion of 9000-km long roads as national highways which will give a fillip for the State’s prosperity, the minister maintained. “So far, we have constructed 5500 km long roads and the rest of the works of the roads were going on, he said. He also asked the officials to speed up the works to complete the rest of the roads on time for transforming the State. “Ensure that every rupee of the allotted funds be utilized in a proper way. The roads should be built in such a way to give long life using technology and new practices and push the progress of the State”, he added. (Maxim News)
