Hyderabad, July 22: A 23 year old cab driver has been arrested for allegedly raping an airline cabin crew member after diverting his vehicle to a secluded location while she was travelling to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) for duty.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of July 20.
Police Arrest Accused After Investigation
According to police, the woman boarded a cab to travel to RGIA for work. During the journey, the driver allegedly diverted the vehicle to a secluded area near an under construction school on the outskirts of Shamshabad instead of proceeding to the airport.
Police said the driver allegedly sexually assaulted the woman before fleeing from the spot.
The victim later approached the RGIA Police Outpost and lodged a complaint. Based on her complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Using technical evidence and other investigative leads, police identified and arrested the accused, Prashant Kumar (23), on Tuesday.
According to investigators, the accused allegedly confessed to the offence during interrogation. Further investigation is underway.
