Cabinet approves PM Poshan scheme: Here’s what you should know

New Delhi, Sept. 29: A new PM POSHAN scheme has been approved by the Union Cabinet. This will provide mid-day meals to more than 11.8 crore government school students.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur said in a press conference that the scheme will span 5 years and Rs. 1.31 lakh crore will be spent on the same.

This will include the popularly known Mid-Day Meal Scheme, where one hot meal will be served to each student.

The scheme will be extended to students studying in pre-primary or Bal Vatikas of Government and Government-aided primary schools, in addition to those already covered under the scheme.

Besides that, the Cabinet has also approved the expansion of the Nimach-Ratlam railway line and the Rajkot-Kanalus railway line at a total estimated cost of Rs. 1,095.88 crore and Rs. 1,080.58 crore, respectively.

The Cabinet has also agreed to a Rs 4,400 crore investment in ECGC ltd., which will benefit exporters, banks and create 59 lakh new jobs.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said that the Cabinet has agreed to infuse Rs. 1,650 crore in the National Export Insurance Account scheme.
