Hyderabad, Jan.4 (Maxim News): Centenary Birthday Celebrations of late Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao was held today at Gandhi Bhavan. Senior Congress leader VH chaired the celebrations. TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, MLAs D.Sridhar Babu, T.Jagga Reddy, former ministers Dr.J.Geeta Reddy, Ponnala Laxmaiah, Marri Shashidhar Reddy party leaders Ch.Vamshichand Reddy, Mallu Ravi, Kodanda Reddy and former minister G.Vinod Kumar and others took part in the celebrations.
The leaders have paid tribute by garlanding the Portrait of PV on the occasion. Senior journalist K.Ramchandra Murthy delivered the key note address on the occasion. The editor of Andhra Jyothy news daily K. Srinivas also spoke on the occasion.
Delivering the key note address Ramachandra Murthy said that the need of the congress party was there for the society. He also said that the need of PV was also there for the society. He said that he had to launched the PV Memorial lectures and organized them in HMTV till his Association with the organization in 2012. He said that several great leaders took part in the memorial lecture series program. He also said that he got opportunities to meet PV several times . Recalling PV’s words, he said that the former PM had once told him that he lost the elections in the state by introducing land reforms and in the Center by introducing economic reforms. He praised that PV was a linguist and a poet and added that PV had taken several strong decisions when he was in power. He said that PV had a rebel candidate in him. He said that while former CM of AP had brought in tenancy Act, PV had brought the land reforms in the state. He said that the state government had taken over 3.5 lakh acres of land from landlords and distributed 2.5 lakh acres of land to the landless poor people of the undivided state. He said that the credit to give 70 percent of seats to BC,SC and STs went to PV in the year 1972 assembly elections. He recalled that it was PV who had decided to constitute standing committees in Parliament. He alleged that the current BJP government had implemented the controversial three anti-farmers bills in a unilateral manner and without consulting anybody. He said that PV would have implemented Professor Swaminathan commission report had it been submitted during his time. Terming the ongoing farmers agitation in Delhi as world’s largest agitation, Murthy said that the soul of PV would have felt happy if it was also held in Telangana state.
TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that PV would remain in the hearts of the people of the country permanently. Expressing his happiness over the Organization of various programs as part of the centenary birthday celebrations of the former PM, he said that political veterans like former president Pranab Mukherjee and former PM Manmohan Singh also took part in the celebrations. He said that he had worked as a protocol officer at Rastrapathi Bhavan when he PV was the PM of country’ and added that he had got several opportunities to discuss several issues with the former PM. He also recalled that he got several opportunities to tour foreign countries along with PV.
He termed the land reforms of PV as Great and added that the former PM had donated lands to the land less poor of the state. He made it clear that the congress would strive for social justice and added that the party had always worked for the development of Dalits and the poor people of the country. He said that the congress party was still strong in more than 12000 villages of the country and added that the party would come into power in the days to come. (Maxim News)
