Hyderabad, Oct 4 (Maxim News): One of the historic clocks on Charminar has stopped working, drawing concern from tourists and locals. The clock on the Laad Bazaar side has been stuck at 12:30 for three days. Officials say repairs are under way.
Charminar official Rajeshwari said the clock was switched off as soon as a technical fault was detected. Experts from Wahab Watch Company, who specialise in repairing antique clocks, are working on it. She said the repairs could be completed by Saturday evening.
The clock on the other side of the monument still shows the correct time. Locals and tourists brought the problem to the notice of officials, but criticism grew when no immediate action followed. Some visitors photographed the clocks and posted on social media about historic clocks showing the wrong time.
Charminar clock fault raises maintenance concerns
Charminar draws thousands of tourists every day, and tourism enthusiasts have expressed unhappiness over the lapse. Workers and traders in Laad Bazaar, who also rely on the clocks to check the time, say the stopped clock has caused them inconvenience. They want Archaeology Department officials to get the clock fully repaired by experts.
Concerns about the upkeep of the 400-year-old monument have been raised before. Chunks of plaster recently fell from the top of Charminar, which caused alarm. The latest fault has revived the discussion on maintenance.
The clock at Mozamjahi Market has also stopped working. Tourists say officials should pay special attention to the upkeep of historic clocks across Hyderabad. (Maxim News)
