CM KCR to inaugurate temple, mosque, church at Secretariat on August 25

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will inaugurate a temple, a mosque, and a church on August 25 in the premises of the recently opened Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat.

In July 2020, during the demolition of the old secretariat complex, these religious structures were damaged and the CM had announced the construction of new structures in their place.

All three religious places of worship will be open for the employees of the Secretariat to observe rituals during the respective festivities.

“The Telangana government believes in equality of all religions, reflecting the secular spirit enshrined in the Constitution and spreading Telangana’s ‘Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb’ across the world,” Rao said, according to a statement from the CMO.

The day of opening was finalised after consulting with the religious heads. The Chief Minister held a review meeting on Tuesday with ministers, officials, and office bearers of the Telangana Secretariat Employees Association and a decision was made to inaugurate the three places of worship on the same day.

“On August 25, the CM will re-open the temple by installing a Nalla Pochamma idol in the presence of priests by following Hindu traditions. On the same day, the Chief Minister will inaugurate the mosque and church in accordance with Islam and Christian beliefs,” the statement said.

The new secretariat complex was inaugurated by Rao on April 30. The old secretariat, which was a complex group of multiple buildings built during different eras, was demolished after the government felt it was inadequate, poorly ventilated, and lacked facilities, including those for fire-fighting. Another reason often cited was the non-compliance of Vastu in these buildings.

The Nalla Pochamma temple and a mosque that was present at the old secretariat were razed along with other buildings, triggering criticism against the government. The CM had expressed regret and clarified then that the religious structures were damaged due to debris falling on them during the demolition of other buildings.
