- Police action and CM Revanth response over NTV fake news case
- IAS officers protest NTV story, arrests made, license move follows
The Telangana government has taken a strong stand against NTV after police arrested three journalists of the channel for broadcasting a controversial news story. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy responded firmly and ordered officials to seek cancellation of the channel’s license. The move followed allegations that NTV aired fake news targeting a Telangana minister and a woman IAS officer, triggering widespread concern within official circles.
According to the information available, police detained NTV input editor Donthu Ramesh and reporters Paripur Chari and Sudheer in connection with the broadcast. The arrests came after a case was registered based on a complaint related to the news story. The Chief Minister later reviewed the issue and became serious about the matter. He directed officials to write to the Central Information Department, requesting cancellation of the NTV license.
Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy warned that strict action would be taken against anyone spreading fake news on social media. He also instructed party cadres to give a befitting reply to BRS and YCP, which he said were supporting the issue. At the same time, the Chief Minister expressed displeasure with Jagga Reddy for speaking in support of NTV. He further ordered the arrest of whoever was behind the alleged fake news story.
The controversy centers on a report aired by NTV claiming that a minister was having an affair with a woman AIS officer. Following this, the Telangana IAS Officers Association reacted strongly and expressed deep anger over the broadcast. The association stated that spreading such stories against women officers who worked hard to enter the civil services damages their self respect.
Later, the association issued a letter demanding an immediate public apology from the NTV News Channel. It highlighted that such reporting harms the dignity of women officers. The police, meanwhile, proceeded with legal action based on the complaint and confirmed the arrest of three NTV journalists in the case. The developments have placed NTV under intense scrutiny, with the license cancellation request marking a major escalation.
