CM Revanth Reddy Urges Centre to Award Bharat Ratna to Dr. Nageshwar Reddy

Hyderabad, July 2, 2025 (Maxim News): Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has called upon the Central Government to confer the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, on Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field of gastroenterology and global healthcare.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new AIG Hospital facility in Banjara Hills, CM Revanth Reddy praised Dr. Reddy’s efforts in positioning Hyderabad as a global hub for medical excellence.

AIG has earned a name across 66 countries. It has not only elevated Telangana’s status in medical tourism but also brought international recognition to our healthcare sector,” said the Chief Minister.

He assured full support from the Telangana government and promised to personally pursue the matter with the Centre to recommend Dr. Reddy for the Bharat Ratna.

Telangana as a Healthcare Powerhouse

Highlighting Hyderabad’s growth as a health tourism destination, the Chief Minister noted:

  • 35% of India’s bulk drug production comes from Hyderabad.
  • Genome Valley has positioned the city at the forefront of biopharma innovation.
  • AIG’s world-class services play a key role in attracting patients globally.

Revanth Reddy emphasized the need for collaboration between private hospitals and the government to expand health services and innovation.

Key Initiatives and Commitments

The CM also shared several healthcare initiatives by the state:

  • Launch of the Janani Mitra App to aid poor patients and track women’s health.
  • Expansion of healthcare infrastructure, including:
    • New block at NIMS Hospital
    • New hospitals in LB Nagar and Sanathnagar
  • Plans to document the health data of cancer-affected women for early diagnosis and support.
  • An appeal to private doctors to offer voluntary services at government hospitals for at least one month every year, as part of their social responsibility.

He acknowledged the legacy of former IDPL employees in building Telangana’s pharmaceutical backbone and expressed gratitude to experts like Dr. Nori Dattatreyudu for their inputs in cancer care.
